Seven capabilities, one window

Everything a download manager should do — and a bit more

Universal DM handles the everyday downloads and the awkward ones: multi-connection transfers, media streams that a browser won't let you save, torrents, playlists and links that expire halfway through.

01

HTTP/HTTPS multipart downloading

Each file is split into segments and fetched over several connections at the same time, then stitched back together byte-perfect.

  • Up to 500% faster on servers that allow parallel requests
  • Live speed, progress and ETA for every item
  • Falls back to a single connection when a server refuses
02

Advanced media sniffing

Browse normally and Universal DM notices the video and audio playing on the page — then hands you the quality you actually want.

  • Detects HLS/m3u8 playlists and direct media streams
  • Quality picker from 1080p Full HD down to 144p, with sizes
  • Keeps the raw captured stream URL when you need it
03

Torrent downloading

A built-in BitTorrent engine means magnet links and .torrent files open in the same window as everything else.

  • Magnet links and .torrent files
  • Its own Torrent Engine settings tab
  • Shares queues, speed limits and scheduling with web downloads
04

Media playlist downloading

Paste a playlist, channel or course link and get the full item list — with a total size estimate — before you commit.

  • Select all, or just the episodes you want
  • Pick quality and format once for the whole batch
  • Numbers files in playlist order automatically
05

Queue manager

Group downloads into named queues, decide what runs first, and let Universal DM work through the list for you.

  • Move items up or down; pause and resume a whole queue
  • Per-queue schedule and settings
  • Cap how many files download at the same time
06

Proxy support

Send your traffic through a proxy when you want extra privacy or need to reach a mirror that only responds in another region.

  • HTTP(S) and SOCKS5 proxies
  • Username and password authentication
  • Set up once in Settings → Network
07

Resume & refresh expired links

Long downloads survive flaky connections: Universal DM picks up where it stopped and re-resolves links that expired mid-transfer.

  • Resumes from the partial file after a crash or reboot
  • Refreshes expired links and keeps the transfer going
  • Retries instead of starting the whole file again

Media sniffing

Catch the stream, not the tab

The media sniffer watches the page you're on and lists every stream it finds — with quality options and estimated sizes — so you can save exactly what you're watching, at the resolution you want.

  • Quality picker1080p Full HD down to 144p, each option showing its estimated file size.
  • Server qualities and captured streamslisted separately, so you can grab the adaptive stream or the raw media URL.
  • No copy-pasting URLsthe sniffer hands the stream straight to the download engine, multipart settings and all.

Batch downloads

Whole playlists in one click

Paste a playlist, channel or course link. Universal DM lists every item with its size and duration, you tick what you want, and the whole batch lands in a folder of its own.

  • Select all / deselect allwith a running total of what you've picked — 23 videos, about 2.38 GB.
  • One quality for the batchchoose 1080p/4K, 720p or audio-only and apply it to every item at once.
  • Auto-numbered filesname downloads in playlist order (001 - Title.mp4) so nothing gets shuffled.

Queue manager

Queues that keep working while you don't

Organize downloads into named queues, set what runs first, and schedule the heavy transfers for when your connection is free. Each queue has its own priority list and settings.

  • Files & Priority tabreorder items with Move Up / Move Down, or drop one out of the queue entirely.
  • Schedule & Settings tabgive a queue its own time window and rules instead of babysitting it.
  • Status at a glancesee which queues are Running or Paused, and how many transfers each one has active.

How it works

From install to finished download in three steps

1

Install Universal DM

Run the installer and pick a default download folder. No account, no bundled extras, nothing to configure before your first download.

2

Send it a link

Paste a URL, drop in a magnet link, or let the media sniffer catch a stream while you browse. Add a whole playlist if that's what you need.

3

Watch it fly, then organize it

Track speed and ETA live, queue whatever's next, and resume anything that gets interrupted — even after a reboot.

Compare

Why a download manager at all?

Your browser is built for browsing, not for moving gigabytes. Here's how Universal DM stacks up against a browser's built-in downloader and a basic download manager.

General comparison based on the features each type of tool typically offers; capabilities vary between products.
Capability Universal DM Browser built-in Basic download manager
Multipart, multi-connection downloading Up to 500% faster Single connection Fixed, limited
Media sniffing with a quality picker Video & audio streams Not available Rarely offered
Torrent & magnet support Built-in engine Not available Sometimes, separately
Playlist & batch downloading Whole playlists One file at a time Manual, item by item
Queue manager with priorities & scheduling Named queues + schedule No queue Basic queue only
Proxy support (HTTP / SOCKS5) HTTP(S) & SOCKS5 System-wide only Varies
Resume & refresh expired links Resume + re-resolve Sometimes resumes Partial
Ads, bundles or a forced account None None Often bundled

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Universal DM free?

Yes. The app is free to download and use, with no account, no ads and no bundled toolbars or extra software in the installer.

Which Windows versions are supported?

Universal DM runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. Administrator rights are needed to install it; after that it runs as a normal desktop application.

How does "up to 500% faster" actually work?

Instead of asking a server for one big file over one connection, Universal DM requests several segments in parallel and reassembles them locally. The gain depends on the server (some throttle per connection) and on your own connection — a fast line with a cooperative server sees the biggest improvement.

If a server refuses parallel requests, the download continues on a single connection so nothing breaks. You can change the number of threads per download in Settings → Performance & Limits.

Can it download playlists and whole channels?

Yes. Paste a playlist, channel or course link into Add Playlist and Universal DM lists every item with its size and duration. Tick the ones you want, choose a quality and format for the batch, and it numbers the files in playlist order.

Please only download content you have the right to save, and respect the terms of service of the site you're using.

Does it handle torrents as well?

Yes — there's a built-in BitTorrent engine, so magnet links and .torrent files open in the same window as your other downloads and share the same queue, speed limit and scheduling options. The Torrent Engine tab in Settings controls it.

Use torrent features only for content you're legally entitled to download and share.

How do I use a proxy?

Open Settings → Network and enter your proxy details. Universal DM supports HTTP(S) and SOCKS5 proxies, including username and password authentication, so you can route traffic through a proxy for privacy or to reach a mirror in another region.

What happens when a download link expires?

Links from file hosts often expire while a large file is still transferring. Universal DM detects that, refreshes the link, and carries on from the bytes it already has instead of starting over. If your connection drops or the PC restarts, the partial file is kept and the download resumes from where it stopped.

How do I control speed and how many files download at once?

In Settings → Performance & Limits you can set:

  • Threads per download — how many connections each file uses (8 by default).
  • Concurrent files — how many downloads run at the same time.
  • Speed limit (KB/s) — cap the total bandwidth, or leave it at 0 for unlimited.
Is there a macOS or Linux version?

Not at the moment — Universal DM is a Windows application. The download page always has the current build for Windows 10 and 11.
